Sanxia Stone

Continuing the story of the Yingge Stone, looking over the Dahan River on the opposite bank is the Sanxia stone. When General Koxinga’s soldiers shot of the head off the Oriole (parrot), they also shot a hole through the other bird’s stomach. This kite became the Sanxia Stone.

We drove up Yuangshan Mountain to the Yuan Peak Pavilion. If one were to hike the distance, it would take a couple of hours. The Guangfu Memorial Bell was built as a symbol of peace.

The pavilion is not the highest point. From here, Horace and Dustin took us to an even higher peak. We walked away from the bell along a path before ascending steps. Then we really had to climb up the mountain.

Steps to the top

Appreciate the steps while you can, they won’t go on forever

At the very top, we could see all of Sanxia and Yingge. It was an extraordinary feeling to behold the wide expanse at the top of the Sanxia Stone, a mix of fear and exhilaration. It is too bad we didn’t get to see the stone from afar to see the hole in its stomach, but we were literally on the kite’s head.
